Become a Crawford Performance Dealer

Crawford Performance Subaru STI at Gymkhana Grid 2010

Built Subaru engines, a certified pre-owned powertrain program, and a parts dealer program — for used car dealers and independent shops.

Crawford Performance builds Subaru engines. We are opening our dealer program to two kinds of businesses: used car dealers who retail Subarus, and independent repair and performance shops that install engines for their customers. If a Subaru with a tired, blown, or knocking motor is a problem on your lot or in your service bay, this program turns that problem into the reason the car sells.

This is Crawford's Subaru engine dealer program: built Subaru short blocks and long blocks for EJ and FA platforms — including WRX, STI, and BRZ applications in our built-motor catalog — with no core charge and no rebuilds, because every Crawford motor starts from a brand-new OEM block.

Three ways to work with Crawford

For used car dealers: Crawford Certified Pre-Owned

Buy clean-title used Subarus that need a motor — at auction, through trades, or from your own inventory — install a Crawford-built motor, and retail the car as Crawford Certified Pre-Owned with a Crawford Certified Powertrain.

Every certified car leaves your lot with:

  • A Crawford-built short block or long block, built from a brand-new OEM block — no core charge, no core return, ever
  • A signed certificate and a copy of the motor's build sheet
  • An entry in the Crawford CPO Registry, recorded by VIN and build number
  • A 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty included on the Crawford-built motor, registered to your buyer by name and VIN
  • The Crawford Certified Powertrain window decal and listing mark for your advertising

Your buyer gets documented proof of a fresh, certified powertrain instead of a promise. You set your own retail price and your own certified premium — Crawford does not dictate retail.

For independent shops: built Subaru engines for your customers' cars

Independent Subaru specialists and performance shops can open a dealer account for the engine work already walking through your door: spun bearings, ringland failure, oil consumption, and full engine replacements on EJ and FA platform Subarus.

  • Crawford-built short blocks and long blocks for the Subaru platforms in our built-motor catalog
  • Dealer accounts for approved shops — dealer pricing and program details are shared with approved accounts in the dealer brochure, not published on this page
  • Built to order, to Crawford's specification, from brand-new OEM blocks — no used cores, no rebuilds
  • Install to Crawford's specification and your customer can be covered under the same certification and warranty structure when the car and the paperwork qualify

For parts dealers: become a Crawford parts dealer

Performance shops, parts retailers, and Subaru specialists can also become Crawford parts dealers — selling and installing the Crawford parts your customers already ask for by name, from the original Subaru air oil separator to Gymkhana exhausts, forged internals, and the full Crawford Subaru parts catalog. One application covers all three tracks: tell us whether you want the certified program, a shop dealer account, a parts dealer account, or a combination.

Two examples from the built-motor catalog — the short block and the long block a needs-motor Subaru most often takes. Both are built to order from brand-new OEM blocks, and both carry the certification warranty below when installed under the Crawford Certification Standard.

Why dealers choose Crawford-built engines

No cores. No rebuilds. No surprises. Every Crawford motor starts from a brand-new OEM block. The remanufactured-engine world runs on core charges, core inspections, and used castings — Crawford doesn't. There is no core to ship back, no core deposit to float, and no dispute about whether a core was acceptable.

A name with a record. Crawford built Ken Block's Gymkhana Practice car and the Gymkhana Two car — both were displayed in the Petersen Museum's 2025 Ken Block tribute. Subaru of America commissioned Crawford in 2007 to build the fastest new-age STI, and backed Crawford again in 2017 for Subaru's first factory desert program — the only aftermarket maker ever factory-backed by Subaru of America, twice. Crawford holds five Class 5 desert wins, including Vegas to Reno 2018 and the Baja 500 in 2019, and recorded the first Formula Drift win ever by a Subaru in 2009. That is the story standing behind the motor in the car on your lot. Read more on The Record.

How Crawford Certified works — The Crawford Certification Standard

Certification is car-by-car. Every car earns it on its own paperwork, in seven steps:

  1. Install — the Crawford-built short or long block is installed to Crawford's install specification.
  2. Checklist — supporting systems are inspected and renewed as needed, and photo-documented: cooling, oiling, turbocharger if equipped, timing components, mounts, clutch or converter, fresh fluids and filters to Crawford spec.
  3. Calibration — stock calibration or a Crawford-approved tune only.
  4. Break-in — the Crawford break-in procedure is followed and logged, and the first oil service is documented.
  5. Carfax — you pull a current, day-of Carfax and include it in the packet. No current Carfax, no certification.
  6. Packet in — the complete packet is submitted to Crawford within 3 days of install.
  7. Crawford certifies — Crawford reviews the packet and answers within 5 business days: certificate issued, the car is registered by VIN and build number, or certification is declined.

Dealer pricing lives in the brochure

This page does not publish dealer pricing, discounts, or program fees. Approved dealers receive the complete economics — dealer motor pricing, the certification fee, and warranty step-up pricing and margins — in the Crawford dealer brochure, shared directly with dealer accounts.

What is public, for every dealer and every buyer:

  • You set your retail price — Crawford does not dictate your asking price or your certified premium
  • Every certification includes a 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty on the Crawford-built motor
  • Optional warranty step-ups are available at the sale of the certified car — buyer prices below, the same prices printed on the buyer's warranty card
Certified powertrain coverage Short block Long block
12 months / 12,000 miles Included Included
24 months / 24,000 miles $599 $1,299
36 months / 36,000 miles $899 $1,999

Coverage is parts only on the Crawford-built motor. A step-up is sold only at the retail sale of the certified car, never afterward.

Eligibility

  • Subaru models Crawford builds motors for (EJ and FA platforms, per the built-motor catalog)
  • At certification: no more than 12 model years old and no more than 150,000 miles
  • Unbranded title and clean title history are a must; minor accident history is acceptable
  • Sourcing is your business — auction, trade-in, or existing inventory all qualify the same way
  • One certification per motor per VIN

The warranty, in plain terms

Every certification includes 12 months / 12,000 miles of coverage on the Crawford-built motor, starting at certification and registered to the retail buyer. Coverage is parts only — on a covered claim Crawford supplies or repairs the motor parts; labor is the dealer's or the buyer's cost. Claims require pre-authorization from Crawford before work begins. Second owners can transfer the coverage for a transfer fee, recorded in the Crawford CPO Registry; an unrecorded transfer is not honored. Full terms are on the warranty card the buyer takes home and on our Motor Warranty page.

Coverage does not apply to track or racing use, commercial or rideshare use, non-approved tunes, overheating or oil-starvation neglect, accident damage, non-Crawford internals fitted later, or missed break-in and service documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Who can become a Crawford dealer? Licensed used car dealers, established independent repair or performance shops, and businesses that want to become Crawford parts dealers. Applications are reviewed individually; Crawford certifies cars one at a time and can pause program intake at any time. Dealer pricing is not published — approved dealers receive it in the dealer brochure.

Do I have to buy cars at auction to participate? No. Auction cars are one lane. A needs-motor Subaru you already own or take in trade enters the program the same way.

Short block or long block — which can I order? Both. Crawford-built short blocks and long blocks are both available through the program, built to order from brand-new OEM blocks.

Is there a core charge? No. Crawford only uses brand-new OEM blocks. There is no core charge, no core return, and no build that starts from a used block.

Are Crawford engines remanufactured? No. Crawford does not rebuild or remanufacture engines, and no Crawford build starts from a used block or a used core. Every Crawford-built short block and long block starts from a brand-new OEM block — that is the difference between this program and a remanufactured Subaru engine exchange.

Which Subaru engines can dealers order through the program? Crawford-built short blocks and long blocks for the EJ and FA platforms in our built-motor catalog, including WRX, STI, and BRZ applications. Browse built Subaru short blocks and built-to-order Subaru long blocks to see the current range.

What does the included warranty cover — parts or labor? Parts. The included 12-month / 12,000-mile coverage, and the optional 24- and 36-month step-ups, cover the Crawford-built motor's parts. Labor is not covered. Claims need pre-authorization before work starts.

Who pulls the Carfax? You do. A current, day-of Carfax that you pull is a required part of every certification packet. Crawford does not pull, supply, or pre-check history reports, and does not pre-clear cars or VINs before a bid.

How fast does Crawford answer a certification packet? Within 5 business days of receiving a complete packet — certificate issued or declined.

Can my buyer transfer the warranty when they sell the car? Yes. A second owner can record a transfer in the Crawford CPO Registry for a transfer fee. Unrecorded transfers are not honored.

Does Crawford certify the whole car? No. Crawford certifies the powertrain, anchored on the Crawford-built motor — never the whole car, never bumper-to-bumper. Certified cars are marketed as Crawford Certified Powertrain.
