an alloy of nickel containing chromium and iron, resistant to corrosion at high temperatures. When heated, Inconel forms a thick, stable, passivating oxide layer protecting the surface from further attack. Inconel retains strength over a wide temperature range, over 2000F. Inconel is a difficult metal to shape and machine using traditional techniques due to rapid work hardening. Cutting of plate is often done with a water jet cutters. Crawford's Inconel Heat Shield has been custom molded to fit our BRZ Twin Scroll Turbo Headers like a glove.
We got the idea to use this material from Formula 1 teams and GTP teams that Mr. Crawford has worked with in the past. Although a fabric wrap may suffice, it does tend to break down over time and eventually needs replaced.
Our Inconel Heat Shield comes standard on out Plus 300 kit, as it produces much more hp/heat than it's little brother, the Plus 100. But, we know that some climates get out of control, and keeping the wiring in the engine bay safe from high heat is very important in those types of situations. <---- You can see in the last picture how close the oil drain hose is to the headers.. and there is no damage!
